The Lantern House

Union Dale, Pennsylvania
Residential

The Lantern House begins with an image: a glimpse of light through a dense forest. Set on a wooded hilltop along the Lackawanna River in Union Dale, Pennsylvania, the design reveals its surroundings gradually as visitors approach and move through the home. At its heart, a cantilever opens an unobstructed view toward the river, making the landscape part of daily life. Materials inspired by the site and surrounding area reinforce the sense that the house belongs to the hillside, creating a home shaped as much by the experience of the place as by the building itself.
